it by knowing how to find and address the parts of your offer that send up red flags.

 

When I first wanted to enter the corporate market as a magician, I had some big
hurdles to overcome. I knew my prospects were thinking, “this guy’s been doing birthday parties…we’re not looking for rabbit tricks for our sales meetings or trade-shows.”

I had no corporate references. And I’d never worked for crowds that big. In fact, I knew I wouldn’t even be taken seriously if I didn’t charge at least five times what I was currently making. So when I met the decision makers I knew I had to make my case persuasive, forceful and quick.

And I did.

I walked in pulling no punches. From my “executive” attire to my mindreading demonstration I changed their minds about what I do. Stiff, by-the-book managers were suddenly animated, excited and applauding enthusiastically. And I got the gig.

But only because I identified the obstacles ahead of time. And with only the one chance to sell them. That meant overcoming the story they already had in their minds about magicians. After all…

The fact of the matter is your customers are thinking about the flaws they perceive about your offer whether they’re real or not. That means you’re leaving a lot of money on the table if you don’t bring them up yourself.

But the most amazing thing was how he walked us through every bit of skepticism he had when learning the system he used. He knew right when our “BS” detectors were about to go off and we’d start to question whatever he was saying.
